Solana, Cagayan - After a lull of two years due to restrictions in public gatherings, the DOLE-Cagayan Field Office (CFO) recently facilitated a face-to-face job fair in this town in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Solana, its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Solana.
Solana Mayor Jenalyn Carag, in her opening speech, said that she’s hopeful of participating employers hiring as many job seekers as possible even after the two-day job fair to help boost the struggling regional economy. She also emphasized that women should not be confined in their houses as they have an integral part in the country’s economic progress.
“Sana maraming kunin at ma-hire na participants ngayon sa ating Job Fair. Bilang ipinagdiriwang natin ngayon ang Women’s Month, maaari nating ipakita na tayo ay hindi lang pang bahay, kaya nating magtrabaho at maging parte ng mga manggagawa sa bansa at mag-ambag sa [ating] ekonomiya,” Mayor Carag said.
The two-day job fair had a total of eight job seekers hired-on-the-spot. The activity attracted a total of 77 job seekers, mostly women who are solo parents, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and graduate students.
DOLE-CFO was able to facilitate the face-to-face job fair and assisted the participants by first holding a Labor Education Seminar. The office is anticipating more in-person job fairs to promote inclusivity, especially for job seekers who are not privileged to have an access through online platforms. ###
