A total of 63 transport workers recently received Bigasan and other livelihood starter kits amounting to P670K through the Department of Labor and Employment - Isabela Field Office (DOLE-IFO).
The DOLE’s livelihood package was awarded to jeepney drivers who were affected by the Public Utility Modernization Program (PUVMP) from the municipalities of Burgos, Gamu, Jones, Reina Mercedes, San Manuel, San Mateo, Tumauini, and in the cities of Ilagan, Cauayan, and Santiago.
This project is a joint undertaking of the DOLE, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Office of Transportation Cooperative (OTC).
Evelyn Yango, Chief of the DOLE-IFO, meanwhile mentions about the project's goal pertaining to affected stakeholders of the (PUVMP), a social safety net and employment opportunities through a livelihood assistance package in order to provide them stable sources of income outside the public transportation sector.
“We are banking on the support of our partner agencies to monitor the implementation of these livelihood projects to ensure the project’s smooth implementation and generate income in order to cushion the impact of the transportation modernization program,” Chief Yango added. ###
