UCV law students get first-hand orientation on alternative dispute resolution

Tuguegarao City – University of Cagayan Valley (UCV) law students got a first-hand experience on how Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) was implemented at the DOLE-RO2 Conference Hall on March 13, 2023.

Six (6) law students had the opportunity to learn and witness the DOLE Single Entry Approach (SEnA),  for them to gain information on labor laws and get exposure to real-world legal issues and concerns, which forms part of the DOLE’s goal of promoting harmonious labor-management relations through labor dispute settlement and labor laws enforcement.

Chief among the topics discussed is the SEnA, a type of ADR which provides speedy, impartial, inexpensive, and accessible settlement procedure of all labor issues or conflicts to prevent cases from ripening into full-blown disputes or actual labor cases.

The orientation was led by head of DOLE RO2’s Labor Relations (LR) Unit, Mr. Onofre James Mendoza along with the Mediation Arbitration and Legal Services Unit (MALSU) and Labor Standards (LS) Unit staff.

“This kind of collaboration can be an excellent opportunity for law students to develop their skills and knowledge in a practical and meaningful way. This type of hands-on experience can be valuable for those who are interested in pursuing a career in labor law or related fields,” Mr. Mendoza said.

The UCV law students meanwhile expressed their sincerest gratitude for the information provided by the DOLE while also vowing to be advocates in the promotion of social justice. ###
