DOLE RO2 launches 5S, aims for a clean, safe, orderly and productively green workplace

Tuguegarao City - The DOLE-Region 02 recently launched its 5S version in support to an orientation of the same held last February 12, 2023, with the launching’s aim of setting a clean, safe and orderly workplace to simultaneously enhance productivity for office personnel, especially as it relates to working with clients, and to boost the office’s environmental performance.

The activity was led by Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales, who led a short program to launch the said activity before the conduct of the half-day cleaning and sorting of office spaces.

As part of the activity, holding areas were set where items for disposal were placed as well as items that can still be used by others. An overall disposal area was also put up in order to more efficiently handle the bulk of items that need clearing.

Regional and field office personnel first worked on their own stations to clear it from unnecessary items before going on to check and inspect the workplaces of colleagues and assigning red tags to items considered unnecessary for the conduct of work-related tasks and responsibilities.

RD Gonzales hopes the endeavor can be maintained by office personnel in order to clear office spaces from clutters and make work spaces more conducive to efficient work especially as it pertains to providing services to clients.

"The 5S concept is a simple yet effective way of managing our physical resources but implementing it transforms a workplace into one that exudes cleanliness, safety and order, thus helping employees become more productive in their responsibilities," RD Gonzales said.

RD Gonzales also said that the inclusion of the green productivity strategy in its 5S endeavor ensures that office employees are able to do more with less and thus is a practical strategy to increase workers’ productivity while consequently protecting the environment.

TSSD Chief Laura Diciano and IMSD Chief Reginald Estioco meanwhile expressed their gratitude for the participation of their respective staff in the half-day activity while also hoping that the activity can be carried over and maintained.

In his closing message, Assistant Regional Director Jesus Elpidio B. Atal, Jr. mentioned the importance of motivation and habit towards ensuring 5S success in the regional office and its field offices.

"While our motivation is important for us to start this 5S activity, it will be up to our habit to sustain this as we look forward to doing this strategy on a weekly basis moving forward," ARD Atal, Jr. said in closing. ###
