Amidst souring COVID-19 cases, DOLE RO2 leads distribution of health kits to RTIPC and members

Foresight, the ability to plan for what will be needed in the future, whether immediate or long-term, is a skill crucial to national government agencies implementing different programs and services in these difficult times.

In hindsight, the labor department’s push to distribute health kits to members of the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Councils (RTIPCs) and organization members represented in the council in the second semester of 2021 can be seen as a masterstroke.

Rising infections at the start of the year has prompted the DOLE to start distributing the said health kits early, even as the looming threat of COVID-19 and its newer, more rapidly-spreading variants was concealed by declining cases to end 2021.

The DOLE Regional Office No. 02 chose to focus, among others, on augmenting the RTIPC and their organization members’ health and safety supplies and resources, with P150K downloaded by the DOLE – Central Office under the Regional Assistance Fund (RAF) in the 4th quarter of last year and the start of procurement and distribution of supplies immediately thereafter.

Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales, Assistant Regional Director Jesus Elpidio B. Atal, Jr. and Ms. Arcely Parallag, Senior Labor and Employment Officer, lead the distribution of assistance for the regional office.

Director Gonzales says that the activity is part of the labor department’s social responsibility, focusing on the immediate needs of the RTIPC and members of organizations represented in the council by improving their protection against the virus, especially its dominant Omicron variant.

One of the ways to ensure that the RTIPC and members of organizations continue to be represented and be active contributors in policy-making along labor and management is through the provision of these kits to ensure their safety against COVID-19,” Director Gonzales said.

Health kits distributed to RTIPC and members of organizations in Region 02 include alcohols, face masks and face shields, distributed in batches and in accordance to minimum public health standards. ###
