DOLE, DOTr lead distribution of motorboats to CagVal fisherfolks, TUPAD payout for Tuguegarao benefs


A total of 672 fisherfolk-beneficiaries from 12 coastal towns of Cagayan Province were awarded with 224 motorboats in awarding ceremonies held in the municipalities of Claveria and Aparri earlier today. 

The motorboats where awarded to beneficiaries from the above-mentioned coastal towns as well as those coming from Sta. Praxedes, Sanchez Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Buguey, Camalaniugan, Sta. Teresita and Gonzaga. 

The motorboats are made of fiberglass material with a built-in machine costing P90k each, inclusive of the GSIS insurance coverage of beneficiaries, with the DOLE RO2 shelling out a total amount of P20,160,000.00 for the purchase of the said boats. Three fisherfolk shall own and manage each motorized banca.

The awarding was led by DOLE Secretary Silvestre ‘Bebot’ Bello III, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, Governor Manuel Mamba, and Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales. 

Local chief executives present during the activity were Mayor Bryan Dale G. Chan of Aparri, Mayor Nelson P. Robinion of Sta. Ana, Mayor Esterlina A. Aguinaldo of Sta. Praxedes, Mayor Asela Sacramed of Sanchez Mira, Mayor Digna Puzon-Antonio of Pamplona, Mayor Lloyd Antiporda of Buguey, Mayor Angelica Dela Cruz of Camalaniugan, Mayor Rodrigo De Gracia of Sta. Teresita and Mayor Marilyn S. Pentecostes of Gonzaga. 

Other DOLE officials who joined today’s activity were Undersecretary Benjo M. Benavidez, Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay, CESO III, Assistant Secretary Warren M. Miclat, OSHC Executive Director Noel C. Binag, BWSC Director Ma. Karina Perida-Treyvilla, POEA Administrator Bernard P. Olalia and DOLE-NCR Regional Director Sarah Buena S. Mirasol.

Secretary Tugade also echoed the speech of Secretary Bello as he said that the motorboats can serve as an opportunity for a fresh start for the beneficiaries and urged the latter to use the opportunity to enhance their livelihood and sustain it for years to come. 

Today’s beneficiaries are the second batch to be handed with motorboats after 300 fisherfolk-beneficiaries from Cagayan province were awarded with 100 motorboats last year. 

The awarding of motorboats come from DOLE’s livelihood program which aims to support the fisherfolk-beneficiaries’ income by providing materials needed to enhance their livelihood. 

In the afternoon, the secretary and his party led a payout of wages to 786 beneficiaries from Tuguegarao City at the Cagayan State University (CSU) Carig Campus. An amount of P2.9M was distributed in the said event after the beneficiaries’ 10 days of community work. 

The said payout was attended by 3rd district of Cagayan Representative Joseph Lara and Cagayan Vice Governor Boy Vargas. ###
