DOLE's Bikeccination drive sees distribution of bicycles to CVMC workers

A total of 10 bicycle units were distributed by the DOLE Regional Office No. 02 to eligible family members of workers from the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) in Tuguegarao City earlier today, following through a commitment made by Secretary Silvestre ‘Bebot’ Bello III earlier this year to help health workers in this time of pandemic.

Each beneficiary, also received a cellphone, thermal bag, water bottle, reflectorized vest, rain coat and cellphone load worth P5,000 as part of the package.

Today’s activity is part of the labor department’s Bikeccination drive, designed to encourage individuals to get vaccinated by awarding bicycles to workers who have completed their doses of any of the available vaccines against COVID-19, with the goal of curbing infections as a result.

Secretary Bello meanwhile committed additional bikes to the hospital to cater to family members of other workers to be able to help as many individuals as possible.

Nawa’y makatulong ang mga ibinigay na mga bisikleta sa inyo ngayon upang kahit papaano ay maibsan ang hirap na inyong nararanasan dahil sa COVID-19,” Bello said.

The proceeding was also attended by DOLE RO2 Regional Director Joel Gonzales, CVMC Hospital Chief Glenn Mathew Baggao and staff from the DOLE RO2 and its Cagayan-Batanes Field Office.

Chief Baggao meanwhile thanked the DOLE for providing assistance especially in this time of pandemic to boost the morale of workers in the field of health.

Napakalaking bagay nitong tulong na ito sa mga kapamilya ng ating mga health workers at salamat at hindi ninyo nakakalimutan ang CVMC,” Chief Baggao said.

The beneficiaries are the third batch to receive such after the DOLE’s Free Bisikleta (FreeBis) Project awarded bicycles to 10 eligible beneficiaries in Tuguegarao City in October 2020 and another 100 from Ilagan City, Isabela last December 2020.

The FreeBis Project is under DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), intended to help mitigate the adverse impact of the pandemic on employment by providing livelihood opportunities to workers in the formal and informal sectors. ###
