PRRD, Bello, other cabinet members visit flood stricken Tuguegarao City

November 17, 2020 – President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, along with other members of the cabinet, visited Tuguegarao City earlier today as the government assesses the damages brought by Typhoon Ulysses-induced rains and flood earlier this week.

The president made an aerial inspection of areas with receding floods, days after record swelling from the Cagayan River spilled water into low-lying barangays in the city as well as areas not usually prone to flood.

The flooding, dubbed the worst flood to hit Cagayan province in 40 years, caused numerous displaced families and individuals as people scampered to safety as flood waters rose.

President Duterte meanwhile committed all the government’s assets to help people recover from the devastation caused by the flood.

A situational meeting was also conducted after the aerial inspection at the Tuguegarao City Airport, with agencies reporting the cause of damages brought about by the flooding as well as interventions that has been given and recovery plans moving forward.

Secretary Bello III for his part promised assistance through the various programs and services of the DOLE intended for formal and informal sector workers affected by the calamity.

Lahat ng tulong na maaari nating ibigay ayon sa ating mga programa ay ibibigay natin para matulungang bumangon ang mga manggagawa dito sa Region II na naapektuhan nitong pagbaha,” Secretary Bello III said. ###
