SPES beneficiaries backing up PLGU–NV’s COVID–19 undertakings

The employment of students for the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) has been part of the employment facilitation program of the Provincial Local Government Unit of Nueva Vizcaya (PLGU–NV) thru the newly institutionalized Public Employment Services Division (PESD) for more than 12 years.

The PLGU NV under the leadership of Provincial Governor Carlos M. Padilla opted to employ students to utilize their 2020 SPES fund amounting P1,296,000.00 for 300 students in 20 days work.  The provincial government continue the implementation of the program and shoulder the 100% salaries including their GSIS Insurance coverage despite of the issuance on the deferment of implementation of SPES program issued by the DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III in his SPES Advisory No. 4-2020.

The employment of the 134 qualified students from July 13, 2020 to August 10, 2020 with an approved salary rate of P477.95 per day was paid by the PLGU – NV.  Ten student-beneficiaries were assigned in each municipalities of   Alfonso Castaneda, Santa Fe, Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur, Bambang, Kasibu, Bayombong, Solano, Villaverde, Quezon, Bagabag and Diadi, and some were deployed to the selected offices of Provincial Capitol of Nueva Vizcaya.

The student-beneficiaries were task to perform office work such as consolidating and updating COVID-19 reports, helping in the repacking of relief goods for distribution to affected families who are in community quarantine, and profiling of target beneficiaries of the government programs in the Bayanihan to Heal as One Program.

Despite of the everyday stress caused by the pandemic, the beneficiaries took the challenge to work, to support their studies and share a little of their salaries for their families’ daily needs.  They felt lucky to be working considering the scarcity of employment opportunities resulting to the ascending unemployment rate in the region.

The student-beneficiaries gained friends, wonderful experiences and the fulfillment of being able to provide for their needs while they equally value the hardship they encountered in their everyday routine that strengthened their determination to work harder and better.

The good Provincial Governor encouraged the student- beneficiaries to accept the challenge of the new normal trend of education. ###
