More than P1.5M worth of garnishment awarded to workers in Tuguegarao City

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Twelve (12) workers from an establishment here in this city finally received their monetary grant today as a result of a garnishment imposed by DOLE RO2 against a retail company for violations committed back in 2017.

DOLE employees awarded the amount during a simple turnover today at the Regional Government Center in Barangay Carig Sur after years of careful inspection and hearings to check the veracity of the findings with the  workers and the retail company.

Each employee received an amount ranging from P37,815.75 plus to P157,665.00, depending on the type of benefits that they did not receive, for a total monetary grant of P1,530,946.08.

The violations noted by DOLE RO2 labor inspectors include no records keeping for payrolls for January 1 to June 2017 including proof of payment of SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-Ibig premium.

Additional findings show underpayment of wages and 13th month pay as well as non-payment of overtime pay, service incentive leave pay, holiday pay and premium pay for special day. Labor inspectors also found illegal deductions of P100 per month as well as no emergency medicines,  no trained first-aiders and no DOLE registration to the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS).

The workers meanwhile are elated that they can finally receive their benefits after some time so they can use it for their various endeavors especially in this time of pandemic.

Moreover, DOLE RO2 urges workers to air their labor questions and concerns to the nearest DOLE office in their areas so the proper steps  can be taken by agency personnel to find a solution to their issues. ###
