DOLE-Starter Kit to a Lifetime Kit

 

San Mariano, Isabela (November 21, 2019) – DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood & Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) Kabuhayan - Starter Kit package beneficiary Evangeline Madduma from Zone 2, San Mariano, Isabela received a livelihood fund assistance of P10,000.00 in June 2018 from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) R02.

 

This fund will finance her present small livelihood undertaking of selling snack food delicacies to their neighborhood like the “ukoy and maruya” aiming to uplift her family’s present quality of living below the poverty threshold level thru a financial augmentation sourced from her daily sales to support her family’s day to day expenses. 

 

The DOLE-Isabela Field Office (IFO) Head Ms. Grace A. Pomar explained that,The DOLE Kabuhayan Starter KITS Project is a livelihood formation strategy that is intended to bring about improved socio-economic well-being of disadvantaged / vulnerable workers in the informal economy.

 

“Further, the project provides a livelihood starter KITS consisting of a package of tools / gigs & services that will enable the beneficiaries to start quickly a livelihood undertaking and become self-employed. Also, their engagement aims to have a sustainable self-employment through easy to learn livelihood undertakings, she added.

To date, the beneficiary who is a mother of three can now sustain her children’s daily school allowances and able to provide them enough amount to spend for all school projects and other requirements enabling them to submit compliances before each scheduled deadlines.

“Kung dati ang allowance nila ay P10 lang sa isang araw, at ang sapatos nila sira-sira pa na di kaagad nakakabili ng kapalit noong si mister lang ang kumikita, ngayon P20 na kada araw ang allowance nila at nakakabili na rin ng sapatos tuwing ika - 6 na buwan bago pa masira at may kapalit na agad” , Madduma gladly shared her story.   “Dahil sa bigay ng DOLE naging okey na ang buhay namin.” She added. 

Before, beneficiary Madduma had been earning P150 per day from her livelihood but now she is earning a minimum of P 500.00 from her daily sales especially that she added empanada in her foodstuffs which is more than enough to provide for their daily basic needs.  She could even set aside little savings which is reserved for emergency expenses.  She proudly mentioned also that she was able to buy home appliances such as television, sofa and refrigerator from the proceeds of her business.

 

The beneficiary is nowadays is popularly known to the community as the “Empanada Maker”. She can now help her neighbor’s financial difficulty in times of emergency.  With this, she is very grateful for the help extended by the government through the DOLE-Starter Kit Project.  #End.  By: DPCristobal
