LGUs pledge PESO institutionalization; receive technical support

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan --- Following their commitment to institutionalize Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in their respective municipalities, twelve (12) Local Government Units (LGUs) received desktop computers from Department of Labor and Employment – Region 2 (DOLE 2).

The municipalities which pledged their commitments were Sta Fe, Bambang, Bayombong, Dupax Del Norte, and Solano from the Province of Nueva Vizcaya, and San Agustin, San Mariano, Cauayan, and Palanan from Isabela Province. From the Province of Cagayan were LGUs Enrile and Sanchez Mira, and LGU Cabarroguis from Quirino.

DOLE 2 Regional Director Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol, stressing the importance of institutionalizing the PESOs said, “We recognize the PESOs as valuable partners in delivering employment facilitation services. The more institutionalized PESOs are, the better employment facilitation services capability of the government will be.”

Atty. Mirasol also said that under the amended PESO Act, the office will be institutionalized in the municipal and provincial LGUs to provide avenue for clients to simultaneously avail of various employment services, such as labor market information referrals, trainings, and entrepreneurial reintegration.

“I have a strong belief in the Public Employment Service Office as our partner in promoting productive and decent work for all,” Dir. Mirasol added.

DOLE programs implemented through the PESO are the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), Government Internship Program (GIP), Tulong Pangkabuhayan para sa Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), livelihood programs, career coaching, and jobs fairs. (END/JVP/RBE)
