DOLE 2 allots ₱24M budget for youth employment

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan --- A total of ₱24,906,000.00 budget was approved for the implementation of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) in Region 2.

According to Department of Labor and Employment – Region 2 (DOLE 2) Director Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol, the department aims to employ 6, 030 youth beneficiaries of the program for 2019.

“We have set our targets earlier this year and we are already in the process of scouting for pledges from our partners,” Dir. Mirasol said.

From the total number of youth beneficiaries, the Province of Isabela was allotted 2,370 slots, while Cagayan was allotted 1,830. Nueva Vizcaya had a share of 976 slots, while Quirino and Batanes had 427 each.

The SPES is an employment bridging program that is usually implemented during the Summer or Christmas Vacations. It aims to help poor but deserving students, out-of-school youths (OSY) or dependents of displaced workers who intend to finish their education. The beneficiaries must be at least 15 but not more than 30 years of age.

Under this program, DOLE coordinates with employers, intermediaries and Local Government Units (LGUs) for pledges on their counterpart share for the payment of the salaries of the beneficiaries. (END/JVP/RBE)
