DOLE 2 awards starter kits; a fresh jump for Cagayano beneficiaries

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan --- Fifty three (53) individuals from the province of Cagayan received livelihood starter kits under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) from the Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No.2 (DOLE – R02) last July 27, 2018.

The awarding of Starter Kits was held at the Regional Office of DOLE 2 where each of the beneficiaries received 20, 000.00 worth of tools and kits for tailoring, carpentry, food vending, sari-sari store, and baking.

In her inspirational message during the awarding, DOLE 2 Regional Director Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol emphasized to the beneficiaries the importance of these grants for them to uplift their living condition. “Through the project, you will be given a greater opportunity to have better income,” she told the beneficiaries, stressing that they need to work hard and keep pursuing change for their betterment.

Aside from the livelihood starter kits that they received, the beneficiaries were also given training on Business and Work Improvement Course. This gave an opportunity for learning techniques on how to start and manage businesses. They were also given values orientation and lectures in simple book keeping.

DOLE Kabuhayan Starter Kit under the DILP is a livelihood formation and enhancement strategy that is intended to bring about improved socio-economic wellbeing of workers in the informal economy, in groups/sectors with special concerns, and displaced wage workers and their families.

The program prioritizes the poor and long-term unemployed and aims to engage them in sustainable self-employment through easy-to-learn livelihood undertakings that correspond to the skills that they have. (END/JVP/RBE)
