DOLE 2 Director to PESO Managers: disseminate new wage order for Kasambahays

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan---The Regional Director of the Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2), Manuel C. Roldan asked the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers of Cagayan Valley Region to help in the dissemination of the new wage order for Kasambahays earlier this month.

“May I request you to notify your constituents that the new minimum wage of Kasambahays in the entire of Region 2 is now ₱2,500,” Director Roldan told the PESO Managers when they were attending the mid-year performance assessment in Baguio City.

“Actual salary might be higher due to high demand but low supply.  Majority of our Kasambahays prefer to work in Metro Manila or overseas,” Dir. Roldan said.

The new wage order RB II-DW-01 was issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in which Dir. Roldan is the Chairman on 26 April 2017 and became effective on 29 May 2017.  

Under Republic Act No. 10361 otherwise known as an Act Instituting Policies for the Protection and Welfare of Domestic Workers or Batas Kasambahay, the previous minimum wage rate of domestic workers were set at ₱2,000 for those working in the cities and first class municipalities and ₱1,500 for domestic workers based in other municipalities.

The increase, shall apply to all domestic workers in all cities and municipalities of the region whether on a live-in or live-out arrangement covering those whose functions involve general househelp, yaya, cook, gardener, laundry person, and any person who regularly performs domestic work in one household on an occupational basis.

In the case of hiring or contracting of domestic workers through licensed Private Employment Agencies (PEA), the wage rates prescribed in the order shall be abided by the principals or clients of the PEA’s and the existing contract shall be deemed amended accordingly.

In cases where the client fails to pay the prescribed wage rates, PEA’s shall be jointly and severally liable with the client.


Dir. Roldan also urges domestic workers to file complaints and report non-compliance with the provisions of the wage order to DOLE’s regional or field offices. (END/JVP/RBE)
