The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region 02 office, in coordination with the DOLE Nueva Vizcaya Field Office (NVFO), released livelihood fund assistance to identified distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are OWWA members as the beneficiaries in the implementation of one of the livelihood program components of the Educational and Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP) which is the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay program of the OWWA.

DOLE NVFO OIC, Engr. Joseph B. Sales, announced that 10 distressed OFWs and their dependents from the municipalities of Bayombong, Bagabag, Solano and Quezon in the province had undergone screening and were able to qualify with the guidelines of the said livelihood program as the beneficiaries.

These distressed OFWs were not able to finish their contracts due to mistreatment, maltreatment, contract violations and other circumstances that causes the repatriation of the OFW without finishing the term of the employment contract.

OWWA Programs and Services Chief Virsie B. Tamayao explained that the livelihood program is implemented thru a livelihood financial assistance amounting to twenty thousand pesos (P20,000.00) per beneficiary that will be strictly used as a start-up capital for an individual livelihood project.  The OFW beneficiaries identified their livelihood projects like piggery, sari-sari store and snack house.

As a requirement of the program implementation, the OFW beneficiaries were required to attend a seminar provided by the OWWA and then a site monitoring is done to determine the feasibility of the desired business before the financial assistance is released.  A subsequent monitoring will be conducted to verify and assist the business of the OFW beneficiaries.
