Former OFWs turned Teachers receive teaching kits

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan---The Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2), thru the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) in Region 2 awarded just recently ₱10, 000.00 worth of teaching kit to 26 former Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who are now teachers in public schools.

DOLE 2 Regional Director Manuel C. Roldan spearheaded the awarding of teaching kits containing computer tablets, lapel, calculators, reference materials, and set of writing materials.

The 26 former OFWs were hired under the “Sa Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma’am at Sir” (SPIMS), a project of NRCO and in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).  The SPIMS aims to provide opportunity for OFWs who are licensed teachers to practice their profession in the Philippines.

The NRCO selects and evaluates target beneficiaries of the program and endorse them to DepEd who will grant and appoint them with Teacher 1 permanent Plantilla item position.

Ms. Jackilou Reyes, one of the beneficiaries who worked as a private tutor in Hong Kong, discovered the program and availed of it.

“Ang laking tulong ng permanent plantilla item na nakuha ko at itong teaching kit ay napakalaking tulong upang magampanan ko ng mabuti ang aking tungkulin,” Ms. Reyes said in her sharing during the awarding of the kits.

The SPIMS is an OFW reintegration program to continually support the employment of former OFWs who are Licensed Teachers and desire to stay for good here in the Philippines.

“Teaching is a noble profession. Our program SPIMS aims to provide opportunities and persuade our OFW- Licensed Teachers to render their service here in their own country where they can assure for their safety and be with their own family,” Dir. Roldan said.

The SPIMS program is open to all OFW Licensed Teachers with teaching experience for at least 1 year. The NRCO in Region 2 located at DOLE 2, Regional Government Center, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan is open to all qualified former OFWs who wants to apply for the program. (END/JVP/RBE)
