DOLE 2 appeals to employees: it only takes your cooperation

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan---In an effort for a continuing assessment and monitoring of private establishments on their compliance to labor laws, the Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2) urges employees in the private sector to report violations of their employers.

“There are feedbacks from our media partners that some employers do not provide workers of their rights especially on minimum wage, we appeal to workers that when our Labor Laws Compliance Officers visit your establishment for the conduct of joint assessment or compliance visit, please tell the truth when they interview you,” Manuel C. Roldan, Regional Director of DOLE 2 said.  

As part of the mandate of the agency, DOLE 2 is regularly conducting joint assessment to determine the compliance of private establishments on General Labor Standards and Occupational Safety and Health.

For complaints received through emails, text messages, and walk-in, DOLE 2 sends Labor Laws Compliance Officers for a compliance visit to subject establishments.

“We continue to appeal to all the employers in the private sector to voluntarily comply with our labor laws and ensure that your workers will receive their rightful benefits,” DOLE RO2 Regional Director Manuel C. Roldan appeals.

On the other hand, while the agency is doing its best in looking for solutions for violations of employers, the participation of the employees is also needed to hasten the progress of assessment and immediately solve the issue.

In the mainstream, though there are complaints received by the department, the compliance visit process comes strenuous because of some problems, which includes the lack of cooperation of the complainants because of fear for dismissal.  In connection to this, Director Roldan asks complainant-employees to cooperate during the interview.

He explained in an interview that the process being conducted by Labor Laws Compliance Officers during compliance visit and assessments or inspections will determine the compliance and violations of the employers.  (END/JVP/RBE)
