In Quirino province, DOLE 2 awards ₱27M for 8,267 displaced workers

A total of 8,267 displaced and disadvantaged workers in the Province of Quirino recently benefited in the ₱27,281,100.00 Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Special Project Fund allotted by the Department of Labor and Employment- Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2).

The Province of Quirino has been one of the fatally affected by the consecutive onslaught of Typhoons “Karen” and “Lawin”. The steady heavy rains coupled with gusty violent winds, blew down crops that were about to be harvested.

With the loss of livelihood resources, the farming and fisher folks of Quirino needed an assistance.

According to DOLE 2 Regional Director, Manuel C. Roldan, in order to mitigate the impact of the said calamities, assistance through the TUPAD or Emergency Employment Program of DOLE 2 was sought by the Provincial Government of Quirino.

“The project provided the beneficiaries employment as alternative source of income even for short period of time through community works,” Dir. Roldan said.

The Provincial Government proposed different projects that needed improvement and/or rehabilitation which includes Municipal Greening, Cleaning/Clearing of the Road Shoulders, School Lots and Barangay Sites, and Cleaning/Clearing of Water Ways/Canal.

The cleaning materials were provided by the Provincial Local Government Unit as their counterpart in the project amounting to ₱353,565.00 and Personal Protective Equipment of ₱300.00 per worker consisting of 1 piece long sleeve shirt, working gloves and a hat.

Each beneficiary received an amount of ₱3,000.00 for 10 working days that they worked.

With the DOLE-TUPAD program, the beneficiaries were provided some source of income to somehow cope up with the lost income and helped not only their family but also their community in restoring its wasted opportunities. (END/JVP/RBE)
