DOLE 2 conducts career guidance in Batanes

BASCO, Batanes---The Cagayan-Batanes Field Office of the Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2) has intensified the conduct of career guidance to junior and senior high school students including their parents covering 6 high schools in the municipalities of Basco, Mahatao, Ivana, Uyugan and Sabtang last March 13-20, 2017.

The advocacy emphasized the importance of the program in assisting them make their educational training and occupational choices and manage their own careers.  Parents were also informed on their roles as facilitators and not influence their children’s choices.  Parents, having gone through this process can help their children from making mistakes in selecting a career.

The Resource Speakers reminded the parents that their experience can help in the career selection process.  On the other hand, sometimes it might hinder it.  The students were also encouraged not to give up.

Mr. Justiniano H. Gabotero, President of the Parents-Teachers’ Community Association (PTCA) of Sabtang National High School thanked the DOLE in conducting the activity.

“There are equally important activities to attend to but I believe, that as a parent, we need to be enlightened on many issues concerning our children’s choice of career direction,” Gabotero said.

“Through this activity, we understand that our role as parents in guiding our children in the choice of their career is crucial.  We are also enlightened that a well-planned career is instrumental in a happy and satisfied life,” Gabotero added.

The conduct of career guidance was in coordination with the school administration and the designated Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers.

The career guidance advocacy provided the students factors to consider in choosing a career: what career is best for you, selecting a college, personal traits, financial gain, interest, skills/aptitude, financial and physical aspects, employment opportunity and labor marker information.
