DOLE 2 hires PWDs

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan---The Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2) intensifies its advocacy in the promotion of the Magna Carta for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to equal employment opportunity by hiring another PWD just recently.

Richard Kevin F. Batalla, a speech impared and a graduate of Diploma in Business Technology at the Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf College of Technology, Inc., is a beneficiary of the Government Internship Program and at present assigned at the Internal Management Services Division.

“At first, it was hard for me to adjust with the new environment, various personality traits and type of work assigned.  However, I came to realize that at the end of the day, these challenges sharpen my character which makes me a better and stronger person.  My limitations bring me to greater opportunities because I may be a person with disability but with special abilities.  Working with DOLE 2, a strong advocate of the Magna Carta for PWDs is one of the greatest opportunities I have ever had,” Batalla said.

Also, at least 3 PWDs, all orthopedically handicapped are working with DOLE 2 as permanent employees.  Ms. Liezel P. Magno, Senior Labor and Employment Officer assigned at the Cagayan-Batanes Field Office, Mr. Froctoso C. Agustin, Senior Labor and Employment Officer assigned at the Technical Services and Support Division and Mr. Willy S. Licay, Administrative Assistant III assigned at the Nueva Vizcaya Field Office.

DOLE 2 continue to strengthen the rights of PWDs not only by employing them but also by opening access of PWDs to achieve decent employment and improve their lives through self-employment and encouraging private establishments to hire qualified PWDs.
