TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan--- Pursuant to DOLE’s Administrative Order No. 83 signed by Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III on 10 March 2017, Director Manuel C. Roldan assumed as the new Regional Director of the Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2) effective 15 March 2017.
“I am very glad to be here. As a matter of fact, I feel comfortable and I sense your support. I am from Davao but I am assigned here in the northern part of Luzon. Probably, this is already my last assignment before I retire from government service,” Director Roldan said.
“Maybe, God has reasons for sending me here. With my experiences in government service, I can say that I am already a seasoned public servant,” Director Roldan added.
Director Roldan rose from the rank. He started his career in 1978 at the Rural Workers Office, now, the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns as contractual employee. With the re-organization in 1982, he was appointed as Division Chief.
In 1986, he was transferred to the then newly created National Conciliation and Mediation Board as one of the pioneer Conciliators. He became Assistant Regional Director of DOLE Region 11 in 1994 and Regional Director in 1998. He was transferred to Region 10 in 2002. He was also posted as Labor Attaché in Saudi Arabia, Italy and Hong Kong. He became also a Regional Director of DOLE Region 6.
His latest assignment was National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) in Tacloban City as Executive Director. He rehabilitated NMP from the devastation of Super Typhoon “Yolanda”. Now, NMP is a world-class maritime center that provides training and research that responds to the needs of Filipino seafarers and the industry.
With his experiences in the DOLE for 39 years now, Director Roldan believes that he can deliver quality services in Region 2.
Meanwhile, outgoing Regional Director, Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr., who served Region 2 for 5 years, thanked DOLE 2 staff for the support and cooperation while he was in the region. Atty. Rodriguez will be assigned in Region 4B. (END/RBE)
