CABARROGUIS, Quirino---Out the 3,110 board passers of the Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination last September 2016, Julex A. Biagan, a scholar of the Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office No. 2 (DOLE 2), was among them.
Engr. Biagan, a native of Diffun, Quirino took his degree in Nueva Vizcaya State University and graduated in March 2016.
The eldest among his siblings, Engr. Biagan applied for the scholarship under the Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) of DOLE 2 in the hope of lessening the burden of expensive college education. As a son of a bonafide member of the Qurino Electric Cooperative Employees Labor Union, he was qualified for the Isabelo delos Reyes Scholarship.
He said that he was grateful of the opportunity bestowed upon him by DOLE 2 at the same time he took it as a challenge to maintain his scholarship.
“As a son of ordinary employees, I saw that it was difficult for my parents to send us in college, thus it motivated me to strive harder in school and set myself as an example to my siblings,” Engr. Biagan said.
Engr. Biagan is dreaming to be able to practice his profession and hopes to continue to take his Master’s Degree, but plans to find work at the meantime. He also conveyed his gratitude to DOLE 2 and hopes for the continuity of scholarship program, in order to help students like him reach their goals in life.
His message to his fellow scholars is to strive hard at school and not squander the opportunity given to them and to make the best not just in school but also in life.
A beneficiary under the Isabelo delos Reyes Scholarship can receive a maximum of ₱500/unit tuition fee, ₱1,000 miscellaneous fee/semester, ₱2,500 book allowance/semester, and ₱3,000 monthly stipend.
