The Regional Director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 2, Grace Y. Ursua awarded on September 13, 2011
P460,000 worth of community enterprise project (CEP) to the LGU of Sanchez Mira in a ceremony conducted at the Municipal Gymnasium.
The Santor Women Progressive Association, the beneficiaries of LGU Sanchez Mira, will venture into Coconut Processing in which nata de coco, coco jam, coco vinegar and coco candies will be their products.
The CEP is in line with the thrust of the Aquino Administration of generating community employment so that every Filipino can enjoy a better and dignified life.
Other agencies like the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry, Food and Drug Administration of the Department of Health, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Coconut Authority, Barangay Council of Santor, LGU of Sanchez Mira and Office of Cagayan Second District Board Member Melvin Vargas also committed assistance to the association.
The DOST committed
P80,000 to augment the financial assistance from the DOLE for the purchase of some equipment and training of some members. The office of Board Member Melvin Vargas pledged P86,875 for the improvement and rehabilitation of the production center and promised to assist the association in the identification of market outlets.
The FDA-DOH will facilitate the issuance of license to operate and will provide training for good manufacturing practice. Also, TESDA will assist the beneficiaries improve their productivity and competitiveness through skills and technical trainings.
The PCA will look into the sustainability of coconut supply by providing seedlings, fertilizers and technical assistance to the farmers. The Barangay Council of Santor will provide land and building for the project at an estimated cost of
P40,000. The LGU of Sanchez Mira, which is primarily tasked to oversee the successful implementation of the project also earmarked P113,200 for trainings and for other expenses.
In his message, Sanchez Mira Municipal Mayor Napoleon Sacramed thanked the DOLE and other agencies for the assistance to his constituents. He also advised the beneficiaries to take care of the project. “Ensure the project will be implemented. Make it successful so that we will not be ashamed to ask for more,” Mayor Sacramed added.
“One of the thrusts of the Aquino Administration is to provide jobs, more jobs to the Filipino people. This CEP will surely generate local employment and give higher income for the beneficiaries. This is the first of its kind in the region so I hope it will be successful,” Director Ursua said in her message. She also thanked other agencies who committed assistance to the beneficiaries. “The power of many when joined together will make wonderful things to happen,” Director Ursua added.
In response, Ms. Roselyn Benemerito, President of the Santor Women Association expressed her gratitude to the DOLE and the other agencies as well. “With all your supports, our dreams come true. This will improve our existing livelihood that was also funded by the DOLE. More members will be benefited and I promise, the association will take care of this project so that it will be successful,” Benemerito ended.
A Memorandum of Agreement among cooperating agencies was also signed to formalize the convergence effort for the Coconut Processing Project.
