The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Regional Office No. 02, in celebration of the 113th Independence Day, conducted a jobs fair on Sunday, June 12 at Casa Angela, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua led in the “Panunumpa sa Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas” after the flag raising ceremony. In her message, Dir. Ursua said that the jobs fair is in line with President Aquino’s thrust of increasing Philippine’s employment rate. “This jobs fair aims to facilitate employment opportunities not only locally but also overseas. We are optimistic that we would be able to help hundreds of job seekers,” she added.
Assistant Regional Director Elpidio B. Atal, Jr. also urged the local employers to hire some applicants on the spot to give essence to the jobs fair. He said that the employers, tagged as the heroes in jobs generation, play a vital role in addressing unemployment.
There were 7 local employers and 15 overseas recruitment agencies that participated in the activity. Registered applicants totalled to 360 and 13 of them were hired on the spot by 4 local employers. Hundreds of applicants were also pre-qualified by number of employers for local and overseas employment. Some of them are required to submit additional requirements, undergo examination and final interview by the employer or principal in case of overseas employment.
The DOLE attached agencies like TESDA, NLRC, OWWA, NCMB, PRC and RTWPB also took part in the jobs fair.
