The DOLE-R02 and the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) have been partners in the upliftment of the economic condition of people in need of their assistance. In response to the needs of Sta. Ana, Cagayan fisherfolks, the two agencies through their livelihood assistance program Integrated Services and Livelihood Assistance (ISLA-DOLE) and CEZA-Zero Hunger Program jointly assisted and funded the Common Fishing Services Facility Project of the Danggayan Dagiti Mangngalap Association (DDMA) of Barangay Palawig, Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
Three units of motorized fishing boats was then awarded to the association on a launching ceremony on August 24, 2010 by DOLE-R02 representatives headed by Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua and CEZA under the leadership of Administrator Jose Mari B. Ponce represented by Deputy Administrator Geoffrey Q. Cabalza and CEZA Sta. Ana OIC Engr. Julian Jovy B. Gonzales.
Dir. Ursua on her message focused on tasks and responsibilities of the officers and members of DDMA in order to attain viable and sustainable fishing industry. She also mentioned the importance of improving the association’s technical expertise through the assistance of the Accredited Co-Partners DOLE-R02 and CEZA. Deputy Administrator Cabalza similarly pointed out on his message that CEZA is providing livelihood assistance through the Zero Hunger Program which is the CEZA’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program to win the hearts and minds of the poorest of the poor.
Sta. Ana Municipal Mayor Hon. Darwin A. Tobias also attended the said ceremony. He made an assurance of the LGU’s full support to the project and whatever programs being implemented by DOLE-R02 and CEZA that will benefit his constituents.
In the afternoon, DDMA President, Mr. George Ragmac together with the members were given orientation on Sustainable Sea Fishing which was conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources through Mr. Venchito B. Villarao. System Management and Organizational Structure were discussed by Mr. Larry Garcia of DOLE-R02. Social benefits were also discussed by Philhealth representative in the person of Mr. Samuel Morillo and Social Security System representatives Mr. Antonio Ramos and Mr. Hector Tollo.
